817.023.21 Swiss Ordinance of the EDI for Articles of Daily Use
The "Swiss Ordinance for Articles of Daily Use" regulates among other things, materials and objects used for contact with food. With the changes of the ordinance on April 1st, 2008, regulations for packaging printing inks were introduced. Since April 1st, 2010, only packaging printed with ink complying with this ordinance may be made obtainable to consumers.
The key rules of this ordinance are:
- Printing inks may only comprise compounds listed in attachment 1 and 6.
- Note: The lists in attachment 6 compiled by the “European Printing Inks Association” are currently revised by the “Bundesamt für Gesundheit”.
- The lists in attachment 6 consist of two parts:
Part A: Substances that passed an officially recognized scientific testing procedure. Should the list hold values of migration threshold, those have to be met.
Part B: Substances that have not passed an officially recognized scientific testing procedure. Migration of these substances mustn't be detectable or lower than 0,01 mg/kg. - Inks have to be produced and used according to respective GMP.
